What an honor to be here at the launch of the Tanzania NextGen Leaders Fellowship. I want to congratulate African Leadership Impact Initiative (ALII) and their partners—HakiElimu and the Irish Embassy—for this visionary initiative. Most importantly, I wish to congratulate each of you 100 young leaders for being selected to pioneer this transformative program.

When I look at you, I see the most powerful force in Tanzania today. You represent a nation where 77% of citizens are under 35—not tomorrow's leaders, but today's changemakers.

The 5Ps for Next Gen Leaders

  • Purpose: You need to know why you are here. Where will you go from here? What is your next step?
  • Possibilities: Your life is about the pursuit of possibilities. You will fail more times than you succeed, but you cannot give up.
  • Personality: People will work with you because they trust you. Build your character with integrity, authenticity and values.
  • Publish: Your job is to inspire others. Tell your stories and inspire fellow Tanzanians.
  • Pray: While we need courage and confidence, we also need to be humble. Believe in yourselves and keep trying.

"This fellowship is launching at a perfect moment in Tanzania's history. Vision 2050 provides the roadmap, but YOU will be the ones implementing it. The digital revolution creates unprecedented opportunities, but YOU will determine how Tanzania harnesses them."

Three Things to Remember

First – Act Now

You don't need to wait for permission to lead. Every policy debate, every community challenge, every development decision in Tanzania needs your voice and perspective.

Second – Think Systems

The challenges facing Tanzania require leaders who can build bridges—between government and private sector, between generations, between local communities and global opportunities.

Third – Scale Your Impact

Each of you represents thousands of young Tanzanians who share your dreams. The solutions you develop here must be designed not just for your own success, but for the transformation of our entire generation.

The time for waiting is over. The time for leading is now.
